Since
this as as close to any writing as I'm likely to get to anytime soon,
I figure this is as good a place as any to tell of my adventure in
San Diego (albeit a couple of months after the fact).
I'd
hopped into my old bucket of a car and drove 500 miles having no idea
how things were going to turn out. All I knew was that I had to be
there. I had missed the first day so I meant to make the best of the
time, knowing that there was no way to see everything. I won't bore
you with the details about wandering about aimlessly with my art bag
slung over my shoulder. I will say that I met some of the coolest
folks I've ever had the pleasure to encounter.
It
was great to meet the good folks from Sketchbook Sessions and the
Pinup Heaven Yahoo group. I also had the chance to talk with some
phenomenally talented folks whose work I'd admired for many a year,
others I'd become aware of more recently. It was an extreme pleasure
and honor have a face-to- face with such notables as Alberto Ruiz,
Joel Adams, Les Toil, Gary Ham, Robert Roach and others too numerous
to list. Check these folks out. They all do incredible work.
The
high point for me was to get the opportunity to show my work to legendary
artist Olivia de Berardinis. She is one of the most gracious people
I've ever met. We talked for quite some time and the insights she
shared were invaluable. Her vote of confidence went a long way toward
affirming why I do this art thing. I owe her a debt of gratitude for
the time and encouraging words. If you see this, Olivia, I want to
say thanks form the bottom of my heart.
Ah
yes. It was a good weekend. Lots to see. Lots to do. I might add there
was more than enough--er--- source material for the observant pinup
artist to capture and be inspired to creat works of. I only wish I'd
had more memory for my handy dandy digital camera.
Needless
to say, I'm looking forward to next year...
