Comic Con 2005

Once again I took off for San Diego on a wing and a prayer, having no idea as to how I would even make it back home afterwards, but it didn't matter. I was on a mission. If I only got to one event this year, this had to be it. As it turned out things went way better than I could have hoped for. First of all, I have to give a special thanks to Dan Bois for letting me have a little corner of his table. A genuinely decent human being, he's also an aviation buff with a vast wealth of knowledge in that area. Needless to say, he's my go-to guy for whenever I need reference stuff (yeah--- I can draw planes, too).

It was a good show, and while I didn't attempt to see everything, I did get to see some of the "usual suspects" like Joel Adams, the Sketchbook Sessions crew, and others too numerous to name indvidually. I also met a bunch of new people whose work I'd only seen on the net and as it turns out some were even fans my mine. Yeah--I'm still trying to get used to the having fans thing. One high point came when I stopped by the SQ Productions booth and ask how one get into on of their collections. I was pointed to Sal Quartuccio who, as it happens, had been to this website a few days before and had been wanting to contact me about doing a book of some of my work. A most fortuitious, and serendipitous, happenstance. I'm looking forward to working with SQP and you may soon see my work on shelves in shops everywhere alongside that of people like Joe Chiodo, Mitch Byrd, et al.

I was pretty jazzed, but things got even better. I stopped by the Heavy Metal booth and had the opportunity to speak with Lorenzo Sperlonga. We knew one another's work, though it was the first time we'd actually met. He suggested I show some things to Kevin Eastman, which I did. He dug what I do, and Simon Bisley fell in love with my big girls. I had some some unfinished sequential pages on me, and Kevin wants me to send them in when I get further along on the story. While I really didn't have any set plans for working on it before then, I'm definitely motivated to tighen it up and finish now..

Made a bunch of good contacts with folks who want to work with me. All in all it was a great networking opportunity. The future's looking pretty friggin' bright compared to only a few months ago..But enough verbiage.

While I didn't take as many pics as last time, I thought I'd share some of what I take manage to take. Let's get to 'em, shall we?
